Week 8 Updates

Hello 4B Families!

I apologize for the lateness of this blog post; this three-day weekend has me completely turned around!  The field trip to the MIM on Friday was a HUGE success; we all had such a great time!  I hope your scholar told you all about it over the weekend.

In Language Arts this week, we are quickly approaching the end of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.  Our last assessment will come in the form of an in-class essay next Friday.  We will prepare for the essay on Thursday by completing a pre-writing map, which the students will be able to take home and refine prior to the quiz.  After finishing our book, we will spend the last two weeks before spring break discussing short stories, plays, and poetry.  The students will be given three poems next Monday, of which they will select one to memorize on March 17th.  Speaking of memorizing poems, the students have been working on memorizing "The Violet" by Jane Taylor and it will be recited on Thursday of this week.

In Science, we finished our discussion of tornadoes and we moved on to discuss hurricanes today, which will be wrapped up by Thursday.  Students will receive their meteorology study guides on Thursday, in preparation for next week's test (on Tuesday or Wednesday).  By studying about these giants of weather, it gives us a great opportunity to discuss how they can affect human life.

In History, we have finished our discussion of ancient people in Arizona and we are moving on to discuss the influence of Spanish and Portuguese explorers in America.  Although some of these explorers did not explore Arizona specifically, their explorations laid the foundation for additional discoveries.

Have a wonderful, short week and, as always, thank you for the continued support!
